ABOUT ME
AUTODIDACT:
Before we dive into my boring life let me first welcome you to my website. I would like to tell you a little about myself but the truth is I don’t know where to begin. So let’s see if we can do this easily. If you were to ask me to choose a word that best described me, I would probably come up with a list of words like ambitious, curious, eager, determined, resolute, unwavering, unyielding, steadfast, self-assertive and audacious.
These words are cutie in the sense they give a good description of my personality but they don’t really describe the person I truly am. There are a few other words that could best describe me as well but we don't want to go there. The one word you would never see on my list is AUTODIDACT. This is not a word often used in everyday conversation so naturally, when I first stumbled upon it I had to look up its meaning. An AUTODIDACT is a self-taught person. Auto - means "self" and "didact" comes from the Greek word for "teach." When I was younger, my family took very little interest in my education. I was eager to learn…hungry for knowledge. I knew at a very young age if I was to get an education I would have to become an autodidact. Of course, I didn’t know the word since I’d never heard it spoken. Today, I can say without a doubt: the one word that best describes me is AUTODIDACT.
CURIOUS:
I was very curious as a child. I always wanted to know why things happened the way they did. If I heard a rumble of thunder, I looked up to the sky to see where that noise was coming from. To me, it sounded like someone pushing around furniture in their apartment upstairs. Another of my curiosities was even stranger. This may sound completely outrageous to you but I often thought there were tiny little people living inside the radio. I wanted to know whose voices they were. I would often stand in front of the radio, peeking on the inside. I thought if I looked closely enough I would see tiny little people walking about in their tiny little houses, on the streets and driving around in their tiny little cars. I literally envisioned a vibrant metropolis going on inside the radio. “Who are you?” I would shout. After a few minutes and no reply, I walked away in utter disappointment. Until I came of age, I was still convinced there were little people living inside my grandmother’s radio. Talk about living in a Twilight Zone!
DON’T WAIT. JUST DO IT:
I often like doing things on a whim. I never liked waiting. If I get an idea to do something I just went with it! This is the same attitude I took in creating my artwork. Sometimes I would be working on four or six different projects at a time. Art is my passion. I started drawing at a very young age. If memory serves me well, at age six, I won first prize in school for best art.
As I got older and was able to afford my education, I decided to study Computer Graphic Art shortly after completing my studies in Microsoft MCSE Certified Course at the Canadian College of Business and Computers in 1999. However, my budget (at the time) would not allow me. I didn’t allow this setback to handicap me and my dream. I believe very strongly if you can’t afford what you want then work with what you have. Whit that in mind I dove headlong in what was available to me: Microsoft Windows 10. By using Microsoft Windows 10 tools I am able to create my artwork and posted them on my website and share them with the rest of the world.
PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT:
All the work on this site was done with the help of Clip Arts and Microsoft Windows 10 Tools. Yes! Clip Art! Clip Art is very important in bringing your work to life. Except for some free-hand drawings I did back in school, no special software is used in my work. I taught myself everything. I didn’t have the luxury of going to art school. Sometimes when life dealt us a bad hand we can’t let it stop us. Not all of us have the luxury of an expensive course in Computer graphics. However, there are ways of getting around it if you are willing and determined. I am a self-motivator so naturally; when it comes to working long hours on my art, I am unyielding. Once I started working on a project I never stop until I see it through to the end. Yes! I do take breaks. Sometimes I’m on my computer for hours working on my designs. But because I enjoy my work it never really felt like work. It’s more like fun work. When you enjoy what you do and having fun doing it, especially when there isn’t a boss looking over your shoulder, it makes it that much more fun!
LOOKING TO TRY OTHER AVENUES:
Free-hand drawing has always been my passion. It is what discovered me as an artist and what I discovered in the drawing. However, since I started working on the computer, I have been on a long break from free-hand drawing. I’m afraid I may be a little bit rusty but I would like to go back to my roots when the mood gets me. The last time I did free-hand drawing was in school and that was many years ago. As I speak to you, I am considering other avenues. I would also like to try Digital Art. When I do start creating digitally, you will be the first to know. I have never worked with a Graphic Tablet before but I am very impressed with what I’ve seen.
